Erica and David matched on Hinge in the summer of 2019 when Erica liked David's prompt saying he can play the ukulele. But the story doesn't start there. Erica and David have been friends on Facebook since 2010 and David definitely sent her the friend request during that time on Facebook when you'd friend request random friends-of-friends. Although Erica didn't realize they were already Facebook friends before their first date, David remembered the smiley emoticon (ッ) in her Facebook name! Before their first date, David deleted his "Happy Birthday!" posts from Erica's wall out of fear that Erica would think that it's weird to write happy birthday on the wall of someone you don't know (spoiler alert: it is weird). Erica and David's first date was in Kips Bay at Ted's Corner Tavern, a Ted-themed bar filled with pictures of famous Ted and Teddys that matched Erica and David's punniness to a T, and they talked until the bar closed. After a successful first date, Erica and David agreed to a second date for ice cream on a Sunday night. Erica was coming back from a camp reunion in the Berkshires and got back to the city hours after she anticipated, but David waited nonetheless because he really liked her! They ended up getting ice cream after 9pm and when Erica offered David a taste of her lavender ice cream, he said it "tastes like happiness." That's when Erica knew she was in trouble, because that would totally be something she would say. After months of dating, David didn't ask Erica to be his girlfriend in a conventional way. Instead, he introduced Erica as his girlfriend one night when they ran into a Colgate friend at a bar. It was only when they returned home that night did Erica say "Are we going to talk about that?" and then David asked for real and, lucky for him, Erica said yes! Since that day, Erica and David have traveled the world and shared hours of laughter along the way. Whether they're on glaciers in Iceland, playing with turtles in the Galapagos, or watching a Knicks game at MSG, Erica and David are always living life to the fullest - together! David moved down 6 blocks and into Erica's apartment in 2022, slowly taking clothes and knickknacks to Erica's apartment with each visit. As roommates, they've spent countless hours playing backgammon, doing crosswords, and watching Survivor. They've adapted to each other's living habits, with David making the bed most weekday mornings and Erica waking up to Manchester United soccer on weekend mornings. After he struggled coming with proposal ideas, David chose to intercept Erica's plans instead of making them. On Tuesday December 3rd, Erica thought she was going to meet her friends at Bernie's restaurant next to McCarren Park while David met up with a friend in the same neighborhood. David asked Erica to stop by the park before dinner so she could meet the dog, which is an offer he knew Erica couldn't pass up. When she showed up at the park, there were no friends and no dogs, only David and a ring! He proposed, she said yes, and the celebrations with family and friends ensued. Erica and David are so excited to celebrate their wedding and can't wait to party with you all!
